Oli Summer Top
The Oli Summer Top is knitted with
fine yarn and US size 1.5 (2.5mm) needles. It’s a fast project to make and useful
for practicing yarn overs and decreases. The straps can be made with crochet,
knitted i-cords, sewn with bias tape, or with ribbons.

Rows1- 4: k.

Row6: k.
Row8 (you’ll start the stitch pattern): k 6, *k2tog, yo, k8*, repeat from *
4 times, k2tog, yo, k7.
Knitting tip:
I like to put markers between the repetitions. In the case of this pattern,
this is only useful for the right side row you’re knitting at the moment,
because the place of the marker changes in each following right side row. So in
this pattern I use them on the right side and drop them when purling the wrong
side.
R10: k5, *k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k6*,
x4, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k6.
R12: repeat row 8.
R14: k11, *k2tog, yo, k8*, repeat x4,
k4
R16: k10, *k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k6*,
repeat x4, k5.

R58 (From now on, continue knitting the st pattern and as you do, decrease
1 st at the beginning and end of right side –aka all even- rows): k2tog,
k8, *k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k6*, repeat x 3, k2tog. (53 sts)
Adding a
couple of rows that might be confusing as you move up:
R62: k2tog, k2, *k2tog, yo, k8*,
repeat x3, k2tog, yo, k3, k2tog. (49
sts)
R68: k2tog,
k4, *k2tog, yo, k8*, repeat x2, k2tog, yo, k5, k2tog. (43 sts)
R74, 76,
78: k.
R79-82
(including wrong side rows): k.
Approximate
places of the rows mentioned previously.
R83: Cast off 29 sts.
Block, and sew sides. Originally, my
idea was to crochet four 5-inch shoulder straps to be sewn at each top corner
of the shirt, but I was only able to knit one before I ran out of yarn. So, I
went through my stash of remnant fabric and found one that was just the right color.
I made 4 strips of bias tape and sewed them on. Another option could be to use
a pretty ribbon or to place buttons on the front and make loops for the back to button them.
And… voilà!
